The UAE and Bahrain are looking to work closely on sustainability schemes. This was discussed recently at a meeting in Dubai between Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), and  Kamal bin Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed, President of Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) from Bahrain.

The meeting was attended by Nasser Lootah, Executive Vice-President of Generation (power and water) at DEWA, Hussain Lootah, Executive Vice-President of Tansmission (power); Rashid Bin Humaidan, Executive Vice-President of Distribution (power); Waleed Bin Salman, Executive Vice-President of Business Development and Excellence; Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice-President of Business Support and Human Resources; and Marwan Bin Haidar, Executive Vice-President of Innovation & Future at DEWA.

Al Tayer highlghted DEWA’s key projects, initiatives, and programmes and focused on its vision of sustainability. Kamal bin Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed, President of Bahrain’s Electricity and Water Authority (EWA), also stressed on his country’s goal for clean energy, resource development, and sustainability.

He informed that his visit to Dubai was aimed to enhance co-operation and  learn from  UAE’s success in various projects and initiatives with respect to futuristic vision for energy in the region. Bahrain also discussed about its  initiatives to achieve sustainability- a core part of its vision.

Dubai is working steadily towards achieving clean energy strategy 2050 and the Dubai net zero carbon emissions strategy 2050 of providing 100 % of Dubai’s total power production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050.

Amongst DEWA’s efforts towards sustainability, Mohammed bin Rashid Solar Park is one of the best examples that reflects its vision of making Dubai a global hub for clean energy and a green economy. The solar park, with a planned capacity of 5,000 megawatts (MW) by 2030, will contribute to reducing more than 6.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
