To increase energy efficiency and boost renewable energy usage, the Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC) will be building two solar power plants in the country.

The $6.35 million solar energy contract has been awarded to Kuwait’s Life Energy Co. The move aligns with Kuwait’s national energy transformation strategy, which aims to achieve net-zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2050.

In a statement, KOTC’s Acting Chief Executive, Sheikh Khaled Al-Sabah, highlighted the eco-friendly nature of the project. The statement further informed that the scope of work included design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the electric power generation of the station using renewable energy (6.8MWp) in the two liquefied gas-filling plants. The duration of the contract is nearly six years. The firm further informed that the electricity will be used to supply two liquefied gas bottling plants in Shuaiba and Um Al-Aish.

Describing the project as innovative and unprecedented, KOTC’s renewable energy projects supervisor, Saad Al-Qahtani, hoped it would contribute to developing a vibrant energy infrastructure. “The initiative also provides an opportunity for the private sector to contribute to national renewable energy efforts. The successful completion of these solar power plants will mark a significant milestone in Kuwait’s pursuit of a diversified and sustainable energy supply,” he remarked.

The CEO of Life Energy, Hamad Al-Radhan, commended KOTC’s support for such projects, emphasizing their crucial role in diversifying energy sources.
