The UAE has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Pakistan to develop renewable energy projects in the country.

The MoU was signed in Pakistan between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE’s Special Envoy for Climate Change, Minister for Industries and Technologies. The other delegates who visited Pakistan and Dr.Jaber, include Power Division Secretary Rashid Mahmood Langrial and UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure Undersecretary Sharif al Olama.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the PM said, “Alternative energy projects are an opportunity for bilateral cooperation and his government plans to generate 10,000 megawatts of solar energy.” He further said that his government was ready to give a detailed presentation to the UAE firms on Pakistan’s potential and his government’s policies on alternative energy resources.

In a statement, Prime Minister Sharif, informed that the government will ensure that the MoU is converted into an agreement and is realised at the earliest.

He hoped that UAE’s collaboration with Pakistan in the renewable energy sector will help boost energy security for Pakistan in approaching years. Prime Minister Sharif extended Pakistan’s full support to UAE for COP28

The UAE energy minister, Al Jaber, also emphasised the importance of cooperation and identifying new ways to strengthen bilateral ties.

He further assured that being the host of COP28, the UAE would develop plans and create a deep understanding of climate change-related issues along with the Loss and Damage Fund.
