Saudi Arabia firm ACWA Power has installed one of the largest wind turbines in Central Asia, in the Bukhara region of Uzbekistan. This wind turbine generator (WTG), manufactured by Envision, is made in  China and has  a substantial capacity of 6.5 MW.

This installation is a key component of ACWA Power’s expansive 500MW Bash wind farm project, proving its commitment to expanding renewable energy resources in this region, the firm said. The installation of this WTG was managed by the experienced engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor, China Energy Engineering Corporation.

As part of a significant drive to embrace cleaner energy solutions in the area, the Bash wind farm is strategically designed to incorporate 79 wind turbine generators (WTGs), poised to generate over 1,650 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually.

It was reported that  this substantial output is projected to significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions, estimated at 750 tons. The completion of this project is targeted for the first quarter of 2025.

In addition, the company has established a significant 25-year power purchase agreement in collaboration with JSC National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan for the Bash wind farm initiative.

This agreement reinforces the commitment of both parties towards sustainable energy development in Uzbekistan, marking a noteworthy stride towards a greener energy future in the region.

The project aspires to contribute significantly to Uzbekistan’s ambitious long-term objective of augmenting the proportion of renewable energy sources within the nation’s energy blend.

It may be noted that with a substantial investment totaling US$ 7.5 billion, ACWA Power’s portfolio in Uzbekistan encompasses a remarkable 10 power projects.

In a press statement, the Saudi company highlighted that these ongoing investments and collaborative endeavors firmly reflect their unwavering commitment to advancing the sustainable development of Uzbekistan’s energy sector.

This is expected to help contribute to speed up the nation’s economic growth and  in fulfilling Uzbekistan’s ambitious renewable energy objectives.
