ACWA Power, a Saudi energy company, signed memoranda of understanding with multiple European firms. These agreements focus on exporting renewable energy and green hydrogen from Saudi Arabia to Europe.
The companies involved include TotalEnergies from France, Edison from Italy, and EnBW from Germany. The Saudi energy ministry shared this information on Sunday.
In separate deals, ACWA Power also signed with other companies, including Siemens Energy of Germany. These agreements relate to building corridors for energy transmission between Saudi Arabia and Europe.
The deals support cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Europe in energy exports, green hydrogen, and infrastructure development. No further details were provided on the volumes or dates of energy supply. ACWA Power is also involved in several other renewable energy projects, including some lesser-known ones.
In January 2024, ACWA Power signed an agreement with the Saudi Water Conversion Corporation for the Rabigh 4 Independent Water Project. This includes a solar-powered desalination facility with a capacity of 600,000 cubic meters per day. The site uses energy-efficient reverse osmosis and integrates solar power for partial operation, with solar input planned at about 45 MW capacity.
In Uzbekistan, ACWA Power is developing a 200 MW wind power plant in the Bukhara region. The project also includes a 40 MWh battery storage component. It will support the country’s energy diversification and is one of the first hybrid installations ACWA is building in Central Asia.
In Morocco, ACWA Power is advancing a pilot project that combines 25 MW of photovoltaic solar with 20 MW of wind and a 10 MW/40 MWh battery storage system. This project is designed for testing mixed renewable energy systems for off-grid and backup power in remote regions.
