Envision Energy, a global green technology leader, has announced a collaboration in Kazakhstan’s 1 GW Mirny Wind Farm, the nation’s largest and most ambitious renewable energy project to date. The agreement, formalised through a Letter of Award (LOA) during Kazakhstan Energy Week in Astana, will see Envision supply 124 of its advanced 6.5 MW wind turbines for the project. Transforming Kazakhstan’s Energy Landscape The project is being developed by Aktas Energy, a joint venture between TotalEnergies, Samruk-Energo JSC, and KazMunayGas. Once operational, the project will generate approximately 4 billion kWh of clean electricity annually, enough to power over one million households and prevent…

Sineng Electric, in collaboration with Trina Storage, has successfully connected and commenced commercial operation of the Abydos 150 MW/300 MWh utility-scale energy storage system in Egypt. This project is a part of a 500 MW solar park in Kom Ombo, Aswan Governorate. It is Egypt’s first grid-connected battery energy storage system of this scale, and addresses the critical need for large-scale storage in the country’s electricity grid, marking a contribution under the Belt and Road Initiative. Advanced Technical Design and Robust Performance To meet the stringent 220 kV grid connection requirements and provide at least 150 MW capacity, Sineng Electric…
BYD has unveiled its latest innovation in utility-scale energy storage, introducing the “Haohan” DC battery energy storage system (BESS) at the International Digital Energy Expo in Shenzhen last week. With a 14.5 MWh single-unit capacity, Haohan sets a new benchmark in the energy storage industry, nearly doubling the current industry standard. Breaking Capacity Records According to BYD, Haohan achieves a minimum capacity of 14.5 MWh per unit, substantially more compared to today’s typical 6-7 MWh systems. Even in a standard 20-foot container, the system provides 10 MWh of storage, while offering a volumetric energy density of 233 kWh per cubic…
On Sunday, September 21, 2025, Iraq marked a major milestone in its energy landscape by opening its first industrial-scale 300 MW solar power project in the Karbala province, southwest of Baghdad. Spanning approximately 4,000 dunams (1,000 acres) in the al-Hur desert, the plant is Iraq’s largest solar facility to date. Designed to ease chronic electricity shortages, it symbolises the country’s shift toward renewable energy despite its heavy reliance on oil and gas. A New Era for Iraq’s Energy Mix The Karbala solar plant, featuring tens of thousands of black panels arranged methodically, is expected to reach a peak capacity of…
QatarEnergy has signed an agreement with Samsung C&T’s Engineering & Construction Group for the construction of a mega-scale solar power plant in Dukhan. The site is about 80 kilometres west of Doha. The Dukhan solar power plant will be one of the largest in the world. The project will be developed in two phases and will reach a total electricity generation capacity of 2,000 megawatts (MW) by mid-2029. The project is very significant – on completion, it will double Qatar’s solar power production capacity, contributing massively to the country’s renewable ambitions. The agreement was signed by Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, the…
The Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) has launched a request for qualifications (RFQ) for 5.3 GW of new renewable energy capacity in the Kingdom. The competitive procurement round, part of the seventh phase of the Saudi Arabia National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), will combine 3.1 GW of solar and 2.2 GW of wind energy projects. Solar Projects in Focus Solar will make up the largest share of the new capacity. Five large-scale solar projects have already been approved under this phase. These include two projects within the Tarbajal portfolio, totalling 1.4 GW in Al-Jawf, the 600 MW Mawqaq project in…
Kuwait is facing an acute power crisis fueled by extreme heat, ageing infrastructure, and unscheduled outages, prompting urgent moves to overhaul its power sector, according to fresh analysis from Rystad Energy. Despite ambitious targets to increase the share of renewable from below 1 per cent to 15 per cent by 2030, projections suggest that Kuwait may fall short, with renewable capacity expected to reach only 3.3 GW, roughly 7 percent of total generation, by the end of the decade. Rystad Energy sees a 15 percent renewable share as more realistic by 2035 for Kuwait, when over 11 GW of renewables could…
Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) has secured two massive battery energy storage systems totaling 4.9 GWh at a cost of just USD 73-75 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) installed, marking a potential turning point for energy storage economics outside China. Energy storage costs have been on the sort of slide that even solar did not experience in its steep drop by over 90% from 2010 to 2020. Battery costs have dropped over 50% in just the past 12 months , with even steeper falls in China, the dominant BESS supplier. The Saudi contracts, awarded to Chinese manufacturer HiTHIUM and Saudi EPC contractor Alfanar…
The Egyptian Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation has announced a sweeping plan for the nation’s electricity sector, targeting large-scale investments and significant advances in renewable energy for the 2025/2026 fiscal year. The plan assigns EGP 136.3 billion (about USD 2.8 billion) to drive Egypt’s energy diversification, grid expansion, and regional leadership as a power hub. Record Investment to Accelerate Energy Goals The outlined investment for the upcoming fiscal year marks a remarkable increase from EGP 72.6 billion earmarked for 2024/2025, signalling the government’s intent to double down on energy infrastructure. Approximately 73 percent of the funding will…
Egypt has the potential to produce electricity capacity of 350 gigawatts (GW) from wind energy and 650 GW from solar energy, the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker suggested at the fourth edition of the round table on the green hydrogen industry in Egypt, chaired by Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly. The claim of renewable potential, totalling 1 Terawatt (TW), is a significant announcement for the renewable sector of the country. However, reaching that potential is altogether a different story, especially considering the laggardness the country has shown so far in the renewable sector. Egypt’s Renewable So Far…
