Dubai’s electricity consumption grew by 5.4 percent in 2024, reaching 59,594 Gigawatt-hours (GWh), up from 56,516 GWh in 2023, according to the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). Peak demand also rose by 3.4 percent to 10.76 GW. DEWA reported that its total power generation capacity now stands at 17.179 GW. Renewable energy sources contribute 20 percent of this capacity. AMEA Power has started construction on a 50MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Ivory Coast. The ceremony took place last week, in the presence of H.E. Mamadou Sangafowa Coulibaly, Minister of Mines, Oil, and Energy of Ivory Coast, and David Falcon, Chief Financial Officer of AMEA Power. The Bondoukou Solar PV Plant, located in the north-eastern Gontougo region, will generate 85 GWh of electricity per year. Oman plans to expand its renewable energy sector with new projects between 2027 and 2029. The total planned capacity is 2,300 megawatts, with two additional projects adding another 1,220 megawatts by 2029. Egypt has made a deal with Emirati company AMEA Power to build two battery storage stations. These stations will store electricity and help manage the use of renewable energy. Jordan’s National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) has received funding from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Union (EU) to upgrade the country’s electricity transmission network. Emerge, a joint venture between Masdar and the EDF Group, has signed an agreement to develop a 13.25MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) plant at Tawazun Industrial Park (TIP) in Abu Dhabi.
