Khalifa University of Science and Technology has collaborated with UAE-based company Eshara Water, Swedish firm Azelio AB, and Masdar City, to set up the world’s first atmospheric water generation (AWG) system that is powered completely by solar and electrical thermal energy storage. Masdar, UAE’s clean energy firm, has signed an agreement with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) to plan for a major international knowledge project that would focus on tripling global renewable energy capacity by 2030. China-based renewable energy firm, Envision Energy, recently announced the sale of 60 MW wind turbines for Morocco’s first desalination project, 100% powered by wind energy. As per the statement, the wind farm is located in Dakhla, Morocco. It is co-owned by Nareva, a Moroccan energy company, and France-based ENGIE, a low-carbon energy company. An agreement has been signed between Oman’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals, and Belgium’s Ministry of Energy for the Green Energy Certificate pilot project to build ‘Hyport Duqm’ project. The Hyport Duqm project will be jointly developed by Belgium based renewable energy firm DEME Concessions and Oman’s OQ Alternative Energy. Under the project, it will develop green hydrogen and green ammonia production facility near the Port of Duqm in Oman. Bahrain aims to double renewable energy targets to reach its goal of 20 per cent of the total energy mix by 2035. This was revealed by the Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, Yaser bin Ebrahim Humaidan at the World Utility Congress (May 8-10) held at Abu Dhabi.
