Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) concluded 2025 with a major milestone in Dubai’s clean energy journey, adding 1,000MW of clean energy production capacity. This achievement is part of the progress in the 1,800MW sixth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, reflecting DEWA’s commitment to accelerating renewable energy projects in line with the highest international standards.
DEWA’s efforts to expand clean energy capacity continue. In 2025, it tendered for the seventh phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, while the remaining 800MW of the sixth phase is scheduled to come online by Q4 2026.
Al Tayer explained that this milestone aligns with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy and the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to provide 100% of energy production capacity from clean sources by mid-century. It reinforces Dubai’s position as a global model for transitioning to a green economy founded on sustainability and innovation. The achievement also marks a significant step in the rapid expansion of DEWA’s renewable energy projects, reflecting its commitment to increasing the share of clean energy, enhancing the readiness of Dubai’s energy system to meet population and economic growth, and establishing a sustainable energy production model based on innovation and operational efficiency.
About The Project
Launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in 2012, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is one of the UAE’s most strategic projects supporting the shift to a sustainable future driven by renewable and clean energy. The solar park’s total production capacity has now reached 3,860MW, and by 2030 it is expected to exceed 8,000MW, compared to the original plan of 5,000MW. This demonstrates Dubai’s accelerated ambition to increase the share of clean energy in its energy mix, reduce carbon emissions by more than 8.5 million tonnes annually, and strengthen the emirate’s position as a global hub for a green economy based on knowledge and innovation.
