Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Egypt met with senior leaders at Huawei’s Global Digital Energy and Renewables Division during a visit to China. The meeting was part of the Shanghai Conference on Renewable Energy and Energy Transition.
Esmat held talks with Huawei’s Chairman Guo Jiangong and Vice President for Energy David Sun. They looked at how Egypt can bring in more smart energy technologies, modernize its power grids, and build new battery storage systems.
During his visit, Esmat toured Huawei’s main energy facilities. The company presented its latest systems for solar plant controls, smart grids, and data centers. They explained how their tools use AI to cut losses, help grids run more smoothly, and improve how electricity is stored and delivered.
The discussions covered ways to bring some of Huawei’s production to Egypt, add service centers, and set up partnerships that support Egypt’s plans to use more renewables. The talks included using storage to deliver clean energy to factories and homes in remote areas that are not linked to the main grid.
Huawei and the ministry also discussed pilot projects to reduce waste and track electricity use. Some of these are already happening in Port Said and other governorates. The goal is to upgrade control centers and limit illegal power use.
Esmat said “Egypt’s energy sector welcomes new partnerships and will provide support to companies bringing technology and investment.” He added that “the country’s infrastructure and laws now make it easier for private companies to take part in the energy sector, and that modern systems will help Egypt rely more on clean energy.”
