GameChange Solar says it will help build more solar power in Egypt. The company will supply its Genius Tracker system for the next part of the Abydos Solar PV Plant. This new phase is called Abydos-II.
The plant is being built by CEEC-ZTPC. AMEA Power is the main developer. The project will have a 1-gigawatt solar power section and a battery that can store 600 megawatt-hours of power. The company says this order brings its total work in Egypt close to 3 gigawatts.
The plant will be in the Aswan Governorate. It will cover about 20 square kilometers. When it runs, it could make about 3,000 gigawatt-hours of clean electricity each year. That is enough to power over 500,000 houses. It should cut carbon dioxide by about 1 million tonnes each year. The project is set to start running by May 2026.
Abydos-II follows Abydos I. The first part is now working and has 560 megawatts of capacity. These projects are part of Egypt’s plan to make 42% of its power from renewables by 2030.
There are also other small green projects happening in Egypt. In some industrial parks near 10th of Ramadan City, factories have put solar panels on their roofs. These small rooftop systems make 5 to 10 megawatts of power for machines and lights.
In Marsa Alam, a town by the sea, some hotels use small solar and battery systems. These hybrid plants make 1 to 3 megawatts and save power for use at night.
Along new desert roads, some towns use solar lights for streets. In farms near desert areas, some use solar pumps to get water. These small pumps run on sun power and help farmers save money. They often produce 50 to 100 kilowatts.
