Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) has announced plans to develop and connect 51 electricity transmission projects by 2029. These projects will increase the country’s grid capacity and support upcoming renewable and conventional power plants. OETC is part of Nama Group and operates the national electricity grid.
Several solar power projects are set to be connected to the grid. The Ibri Solar III project, with 500 megawatts (MW) of capacity, is expected to be connected in the second quarter of 2026. Two other projects, the 280 MW Al Kamil Solar IPP and a 220 MW solar project, are expected by the third quarter of 2027. Two more solar projects, located in Al Sharqiyah North and South, will each contribute 500 MW. These are also scheduled within the five-year period.
New wind farms are also included in the plan. The JBB Ali wind farm, with a capacity of 100 MW, is planned for connection by the second quarter of 2026. An existing 50 MW wind farm in Dhofar will be expanded with an additional 120 MW. Ras Madrakah (250 MW) and Mahout (350 MW) wind projects are scheduled for connection by the second quarter of 2027. By 2029, additional wind farms at Mahout II (350 MW), Al Jazer (100 MW), Shaleem (100 MW), and Sadah (90 MW) are expected to be online.
Two gas-powered projects will also be connected. The Misfah plant will generate 1600 MW and will be connected by the third quarter of 2027. The Duqm plant, with 800 MW capacity, will follow by the second quarter of 2028. Both plants will require new infrastructure to link them to the Main Interconnected System.
In addition, the second phase of the North-South Interconnector, also known as the Rabt Project, will connect Duqm to Dhofar. This part of the project is expected to be finished by the fourth quarter of 2026.
