Nahdi Medical Company has partnered with Emerge to install solar panels on the rooftop of its IMDAD Distribution Center in Saudi Arabia. The rooftop solar system will have an installed capacity of 3 megawatt-peak (MWp).
Emerge is a joint venture between Masdar and the EDF Group. Under this partnership, Emerge will handle all aspects of the solar system, including finance, design, procurement, construction, operations, and maintenance. The agreement will last 15 years.
The new solar panels are expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 3,000 tonnes each year. This reduction is equal to the electricity usage of about 625 households annually.
The solar power will support the electricity needs of IMDAD, which is part of Nahdi’s central logistics operations. The project aligns with the broader Saudi Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative.
Nahdi is one of the largest retail pharmacy chains in Saudi Arabia. The company has focused on lowering its environmental footprint as it expands healthcare and logistics services across the country. The partnership with Emerge is part of a larger move in the Kingdom toward solar and clean energy installations in commercial and industrial sectors.
Emerge, which began operations in 2021, currently delivers clean power to over 40 sites in the region. These include schools, factories, and hospitality venues.
Other renewable projects in Saudi Arabia, smaller distributed solar systems have been installed on rooftops of logistics centers and retail facilities. For example, a solar pilot project with a 0.5 MW capacity is now operational at a food storage site in the Eastern Province. This project supplies about 40% of the site’s power and is undergoing monitoring for expansion.
The country continues to explore solar installations in community centers, hospitals, and remote government buildings with capacities ranging from 100 kWp to 1 MW.
