Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar, a powerhouse in clean energy from the UAE, has taken steps in bolstering Indonesia’s renewable energy sector. At the 10th World Water Forum in Bali, Masdar inked strategic agreements, witnessed by His Excellency Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, UAE’s Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, marking a pivotal moment in the collaboration between the two nations.

Masdar’s partnerships, including an agreement with Pertamina Power Indonesia for solar, wind, and green hydrogen projects, reflect a shared commitment to sustainable development. The signing also included a Joint Development Study Agreement with PLN Nusantara Power to expand Cirata Phase II, alongside approval to develop up to 2GW of renewable energy in Indonesia’s new capital city, Nusantara.

These initiatives align with the UAE Consensus, aiming to triple global renewable energy capacity by 2030. Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, Masdar’s CEO, emphasized the company’s dedication to advancing Indonesia’s energy transition through transformative solutions.

The collaboration with Pertamina Power Indonesia, underscored by a Memorandum of Understanding, signifies a significant leap forward in renewable energy development. Masdar’s involvement in Pertamina Geothermal Energy further solidifies this partnership.

Additionally, the Joint Development Study Agreement with PLN Nusantara Power marks an ambitious endeavor to triple Cirata’s capacity, positioning it as a key player in Indonesia’s energy landscape. Masdar’s approval to develop renewable energy in Nusantara reflects a commitment to urban sustainability, with plans to meet the city’s energy needs using solar and wind projects by 2045.

John Anis, CEO of Pertamina NRE, highlighted the strategic value of the partnership, emphasizing its contribution to global climate efforts. Ruly Firmansyah, President Director of PLN Nusantara Power, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the alliance’s significance in realizing Indonesia’s clean energy targets.

Bambang Susantono, Chairman of Nusantara Capital City Authority, commended Masdar’s commitment to sustainability, positioning Nusantara as a model eco-city powered by renewable energy.

Masdar’s investment in Indonesia underscores its commitment to the region’s energy transition. With projects like the Cirata Floating Solar PV plant and investments in geothermal energy, Masdar is poised to achieve its goal of 100GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, driving global efforts towards a sustainable future.
