In an ambitious plan to bring green energy from Egypt to Europe via a 1,000km undersea cable, a pact has been signed by the two nations to move forward with the plan and begin the groundwork for the project. Dubai based firm DP World, a logistics management services company, has cut down its carbon emissions from its UAE operations by nearly 50% this year by accessing renewably produced power from the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). As per reports, DEWA has issued more than 200,000 International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-RECs) to DP World so far this year, proving that the electricity consumed is generated from renewable sources, with each equivalent to 1 megawatt-hour of electricity. The Qatari Minister of State for Energy Affairs, Saad bin Sherida Al-Kaabi, has disclosed that in partnership with French firm Total Energies, it is ready to provide Lebanon with three alternative energy plants with a production capacity of 500 megawatts. Utico, the UAE’s private utility firm has partnered with sustainable energy developer Yellow Door Energy (YDE) to develop a solar plant and a battery energy storage system in Umm Al Quwain. Yellow Door Energy, the project developer, is responsible for financing, designing, building, commissioning, operating and maintaining the solar plant and the hybrid system integration. Tristar Group has launched a second solar power project in Dubai, with a capacity of 464-kilowatt peak (kWp). The project is located at its specialised warehouse facility inside Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA).
