The Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) of Bahrain has announced the receipt of proposals for the construction of a 44 MWp solar photovoltaic (SPV) power plant. This project will be located on the campus of the University of Bahrain and is intended to generate approximately 75 GWh of electricity annually.

The tender involves a turnkey approach. This means the selected contractor will handle all aspects of the project, including engineering, design, material supply, installation, testing, commissioning, and civil and electromechanical works. Nine companies have submitted bids for the project. The bidders include Green Innova Trading, Advanced United Systems Ltd., Hansa Energy Solutions LLC, Almoayyed Solar Co. B.S.C. Closed, Dome Advanced Electromechanical Works L.L.C., TBEA Xinjiang Sunoasis Company Limited, Alpha Energy Generations Co. W.L.L, Modern Mechanical Electrical and Transport Co. W.L.L, and Quantum for Energy Solutions Saudi Arabia LLC.

This solar power plant is part of Bahrain’s broader plan to integrate renewable energy into its national energy system. The project is expected to support the country’s goals to increase the use of clean energy while reducing reliance on traditional fossil fuels.

Additionally other renewable energy projects in Bahrain include the Askar Landfill Solar Project, which has been in operation since 2021. This project generates power using a solar farm installed over a former landfill site, providing a practical use for otherwise unusable land. Additionally, Bahrain has been working on rooftop solar initiatives, encouraging businesses and households to adopt solar panels to contribute to energy production. The development of the University of Bahrain’s solar plant will add to Bahrain’s ongoing renewable energy efforts.
