A new collaboration has been launched to boost renewable energy in Egypt through the establishment of a solar panel production facility. The Arab Renewable Energy Company (ARECO), part of the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI), has joined hands with Sweden’s Sunshine Pro to develop the project, with the agreement formalized at AOI’s headquarters.
The project is part of Egypt’s National Strategy for Integrated and Sustainable Energy. This strategy aims to increase the share of renewable energy in the country’s energy mix to 42% by 2030 and over 60% by 2040. The project supports local manufacturing, reduces reliance on imports, and attracts foreign investment in renewable energy technologies.
The Arab-Swedish Energy Factory (ASEF) will produce solar panels with an annual capacity of 1 gigawatt. The facility will use advanced automated systems to meet global quality standards. This initiative is expected to increase renewable energy production, lower dependence on fossil fuels, and cut carbon emissions.
The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy is coordinating with the AOI to localize technology and expand the use of clean energy. Minister Mahmoud Esmat stated that, “these efforts aim to enhance the national electricity grid and diversify energy sources. The initiative is also designed to support private sector involvement and sustainable development in Egypt.”
Mokhtar Abdel Latif, Chairperson of the AOI, highlighted plans to serve local and African markets with competitive solar energy products. The AOI also aims to expand manufacturing capabilities to meet international demand for high-quality solar panels. Yehia Metini, Chairperson of Sunshine Pro, expressed the company’s goal of supporting Egypt’s renewable energy needs and expanding opportunities in global markets.
