In a step towards sustainability, Emerge, a collaboration between Masdar and EDF Group, has recently completed two notable solar projects on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. These projects mark a crucial step in the UAE’s journey towards renewable energy and reducing carbon emissions.

The first project, a 1 megawatt peak (MWp) solar car park at Yas Marina Circuit, will generate around 30 percent of the circuit’s total annual energy demand. This is equivalent to powering nearly 200 Abu Dhabi households and offsetting 900 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. The installation of over 1,800 solar modules across the car park demonstrates a comprehensive approach to renewable energy integration.

The second project, a 520kWp solar installation at Yas Bay Waterfront, further enhances the island’s sustainability efforts. With over 900 solar modules in place, this initiative will power approximately 100 Abu Dhabi households and offset 425 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.

These investments reflect a broader commitment to sustainability by Miral and Ethara, the venue operators. By incorporating renewable energy solutions into their attractions and venues, they are paving the way for a more sustainable future within the tourism industry.

Jonathan Brown, Chief Portfolio Officer at Miral, expressed excitement about the partnership with Emerge, emphasizing the importance of sustainable practices in positioning Yas Island as a global entertainment destination.

Hesham Al Jneibi, General Manager of Yas Marina Circuit and Etihad Park, echoed this sentiment, highlighting their dedication to achieving Net Zero emissions and supporting the UAE’s sustainability goals.

Michel Abi Saab, General Manager of Emerge, commended the commitment shown by Miral and Ethara towards sustainability. He emphasized the importance of such projects in delivering clean energy to key entertainment destinations, thereby reducing environmental impact.

These projects build upon previous collaborations between Miral and Emerge, including the installation of Abu Dhabi’s largest solar rooftop project at Warner Bros. World™ Abu Dhabi. With such initiatives, Yas Island continues to set the standard for responsible event and venue management in the region.

Emerge’s role in these projects underscores its commitment to developing renewable energy solutions. As an energy services company, Emerge offers turnkey solutions for commercial and industrial clients, enabling the adoption of clean energy without upfront costs.
