IRSC has signed a contract with Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems Egypt to design, supply, and install solar photovoltaic (PV) power plants on the rooftops of Sumitomo’s industrial facilities. The project will take place in the regions of 10th of Ramadan, 6th of October, and Port Said. The first phase of the project will have a total installed capacity of 3.2 MW peak.

These solar plants are expected to generate approximately 4.9 GWh of electricity annually. This will reduce electricity consumption from the national grid and cut carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 52,700 tons per year. Construction work is planned for completion in the second quarter of 2025.

Egypt has been expanding its renewable energy sector with several ongoing and planned projects. The Zaafarana Wind Farm, with a total installed capacity of 545 MW, supplies electricity to the national grid through multiple development phases.

The Gulf of Suez Wind Project is being developed in stages with a target capacity of 2 GW. Several companies are involved in the construction of wind farms in this area, contributing to Egypt’s overall wind energy production. The Kom Ombo Solar Power Plant, with an expected capacity of 200 MW, aims to increase the country’s solar energy share. In the West Nile region, Egypt is developing multiple solar power plants with a combined capacity of 600 MW, which are being constructed in phases.

Egypt is also working on green hydrogen production as part of its renewable energy plans. A green hydrogen pilot project has been launched in Ain Sokhna to produce hydrogen using renewable energy. This is part of a larger initiative to develop hydrogen production facilities in the country. These projects support Egypt’s target of generating 42% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2035.
