The EV market in Dubai is witnessing exponential growth and to provide further impetus to the EV ecosystem, Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO) has joined hands with Schneider Electric.

Dubai Silicon Oasis is a global free zone and an integrated technology park.

Under the partnership, an electric vehicle (EV) charging station at Scheider Electric’s Gulf headquarters will be installed to encourage the adoption of e-mobility solutions.

As per global electric mobility readiness index published in 2022, the demand for electric vehicles in the UAE market is steadily increasing and is estimated to witness a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 30% until 2028.

With the installation of the EV charging station, Schneider Electric’s Dubai Silicon Oasis facility is expected to provide more than 300,000 km of driving distance every year to all EV owners, that would save an estimated 40,000 kg of carbon dioxide in car-direct-emissions.

Nawaf Al Khater, Senior Director Planning & Design at Dubai Integrated Economic Zones (DIEZ), informed, “In the Middle East, the UAE is leading sustainability in the transportation sector, with the aim to become carbon neutral by 2050, and currently ranks eighth globally in terms of readiness for electric mobility. Dubai Silicon Oasis, as an innovation and knowledge hub within the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, is committed to supporting the expansion of electric vehicle usage within its community and throughout the wider Dubai and UAE. We are delighted to welcome Schneider Electric to our range of partners in this effort, to collectively contribute to the realisation of the UAE’s goal for Net Zero by 2050.” He added, “As a testbed for innovation and technology, we are keen on playing an active role in the ongoing transition to electric mobility by enabling conducive infrastructure.”

“The UAE has evolved as a strong growth market for the EV industry over the years. The nation displays among the highest levels of acceptability and adoption of EV and has one of the highest charging-to-vehicle ratios in the world,” Ashraf Abdelkhalek, Gulf Sustainability Leader, Schneider Electric remarked. He further added “We anticipate more Schneider Electric employees transitioning to electric vehicles to benefit from our EV charging infrastructure within Dubai Silicon Oasis. This is in line with our plans to encourage adoption of e-mobility solutions. This initiative is also aligned with our global sustainability goals to reach carbon neutrality by 2025 and net zero carbon dioxide emissions across our value chain by 2050.Our ambition is to have all our facilities across the UAE and Qatar equipped with EV chargers. Along with enabling EV charging infrastructure within our premises, we are working to create policies that will encourage more of our employees to adopt green mobility solutions.”

As per the firm, Schneider Electric is responding to an uptake in EV chargers within the UAE to help employees, customers, and partners make more sustainable lifestyle choices to reduce their carbon emissions. It further claimed that the recently-launched EV charging infrastructure highlights the company’s commitment to providing end-to-end solutions that contribute toward the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 goal.

Schneider Electric will also collaborate with the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) to  work together on a series of pilot projects and initiatives aimed at running green and sustainable projects.
