The partnership between Saudi Arabia energy firm Acwa Power and the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena) represents a significant step towards driving the worldwide transition to renewable energy sources. Acwa Power, known for its expertise in water desalination and energy transition, aims to collaborate with Irena to accelerate the adoption and sustainable use of renewable energy globally.

Through this partnership, Acwa Power and Irena will exchange crucial information on various aspects of renewable energy infrastructure, including investment, green hydrogen development, solar power, smart grids, and the energy-water nexus. Acwa Power will actively participate in Irena initiatives such as Green Hydrogen, Collaborative Frameworks, Project Facilitation, and others geared towards decarbonization and net-zero goals.

One of the key objectives of this collaboration is to mobilize finance and investment in renewable energy projects and support infrastructure for the development, storage, distribution, transmission, and consumption of renewables. Joint workshops and seminars will also be organized to share best practices, strengthen capabilities, and raise awareness of the energy transition among different stakeholders.

Marco Arcelli, CEO of Acwa Power, emphasized the significance of the partnership in driving meaningful change and accelerating the transition to renewable energy on a global scale. Francesco La Camera, Director-General of Irena, highlighted the urgency of the transition to renewable energy in order to secure a sustainable future, and praised the commitment of industry leaders like Acwa Power in advancing this agenda.

Overall, this partnership underscores the importance of international cooperation in driving the energy transition, fostering sustainable development, and ensuring energy security in the face of climate change challenges.
